Campus and Community

By Melissa Watton

Be sure to attend this year’s annual employee and retiree barbecue on Thursday, Aug. 25 from 2-4:30 p.m. in the Macpherson Quad (in the event of rain the event will be moved to R. Gushue Hall).

Please bring along a cash donation or non-perishable food item in support of the Campus Food Bank and receive a ballot for a chance to win a door prize. 50/50 tickets will also be sold at the event with proceeds going in support of this cause.

Nicole Dunne, chair of the Annual Barbecue Committee, is encouraging people to attend this year’s event and support the Campus Food Bank.

“The employee and retiree barbecue is always a popular event and a great way to catch up with friends and colleagues,” she said. “It is also a great way to support the Campus Food Bank. Last year, over $3,000 and a large quantity of non-perishable food items was donated to the food bank as a result of the annual barbecue.  We are hoping to either match or surpass the donation this year.”

Dan Dillon and friends will provide live music throughout the event and Sammy the Sea-Hawk will be dropping by for a visit. Memorial celebrities will be also be on hand to serve up hot dogs, hamburgers, mussels and bologna. Cold beverages and cake will be available.

This year’s emcees are Chris Layte and Katie Ward from the Department of Human Resources.

This year the barbecue is being co-sponsored by Honeywell and Belfor.
