Storm preparation

Decision by 7 a.m. on campus closure

Campus and Community

By Memorial University

In light of the winter storm warning for Dec. 13, Memorial University is preparing for a potential impact on the St. John’s and Marine Institute campuses, particularly given that it is exam period.

Ensuring the safety of the campus community is the university’s first priority. The decision to delay opening and reschedule undergraduate exams will be made in the early morning hours based on numerous factors including weather conditions, road conditions, bussing and conditions on campus. Information will be shared by 7 a.m.

Exam schedule

The Registrar’s Office at both the St. John’s and Marine Institute campuses are working diligently on contingency plans for any exams that may need to be rescheduled due to adverse weather conditions.

In the event of a delayed opening, all exams scheduled for Tuesday will be rescheduled for another time on either Thursday or Friday of this week. Information about the date and time of any rescheduled exams on the St. John’s campus will be available on Tuesday at www.mun.ca/regoff.  The revised schedule for the Marine Institute will be shared as soon as it is available.

Keeping informed

This year St. John’s and Marine Institute campus closures will be shared via MUN Safe, a new mobile phone app for Apple and Android devices. The app can be downloaded for Android via Google Play and for Apple via the App Store. For more information about MUN Safe, please visit www.mun.ca/munsafe.

The university will also share closure information in a number of other ways. Information will be posted to mun.ca, shared via social media (@MemorialU on Twitter and Memorial University on Facebook), emailed via Newsline and shared with local media outlets. The Marine Institute notifies students, faculty and staff of closures and cancellations on the main website www.mi.mun.ca, as well as social media (@marineinstitute on Twitter and Marine Institute on Facebook).
