Teaching Effectiveness: Describing What, Why and How Students Learn

This session will explore how you can demonstrate teaching effectiveness in a reflective and descriptive narrative and through the selection of artefacts to support your narrative.

When applying for promotion or tenure, academic jobs, or teaching awards, and when undergoing pre-tenure review, one must demonstrate effectiveness and scholarly competence as a teacher. These sessions will provide opportunities to learn how to document your teaching in a teaching dossier, which describes and provides evidence of an individual’s teaching philosophy, approaches, accomplishments, and effectiveness.

Participants will be given advice about the content and structure of a teaching dossier through short presentations; samples from dossiers of teaching award recipients; writing exercises; and discussion. Anyone who teaches is welcomed to attend.
