Dr. John Hanchar, professor, Department of Earth Sciences, and his former graduate students, Chris Fisher and Stacy Phillips, recently published a paper in Geology, the premier journal in the field of earth sciences. Not only was their paper, titled Combining Nd Isotopes in Monazite and Hf Isotopes in Zircon to Understand Complex Open-System Processes in Granite Magmas, accepted in Geology, but the journal selected a photograph submitted by Dr. Hanchar to be the cover of the March 2017 issue that includes their article.
Swomitra Palit, a graduate student in the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography, Faculty of Science, has published a paper in the March 3 issue of Physical Review Letters, the primary disciplinary journal in physics. His work involved experiments at Memorial University and at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the United States. The paper, Combining Diffusion NMR and SANS Enables Precise Measurements of Polymer Chain Compression in a Crowded Environment, was co-authored with Lilin He and William A. Hamilton, Oak Ridge National Laboratory; Arun Yethiraj, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Anand Yethiraj, Memorial University.
Dr. James P. Feehan, professor of economics, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, recently published a paper titled Optimal Rationing of Productive Public Services under Tax Competition. It appears in the journal Economics Letters (Vol. 151, February 2017). This publication was a joint work with Prof. Mutsumi Matsumoto, Faculty of Economics, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan.
