Using AI to Drive Research

Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Online

Drs. Jiang, Pena-Castillo and Popuri at MUN are each utilizing AI as the tool in their research.

  • Dr. Jiang focuses on building natural interfaces between humans and machines to improve areas such as controlling prosthetic limbs, monitoring rehabilitation exercises, simulating surgical procedures and virtual reality.
  • Dr. Pena-Castillo uses AI to solve molecular biological problems, such as understanding how bacteria regulates their genes and how microbiota affects organisms and the environment.
  • Dr. Popuri focuses on developing automated medical image interpretation technologies to increase accuracy and reliability in diagnosing and treating cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.

Join us for this panel discussion as they tell us about their experiences with AI. Learn how you might apply AI in your own research, what to think about, and how to avoid some of the pitfalls. Our panelists will outline the nature and applications of their own research, their own successes and failures using AI, lessons they’ve learned, and things you should consider if you’re thinking about incorporating AI into your work. We will finish with an open Q&A forum.
