About the Gazette
The Gazette is Memorial’s official news site. It began its print life when Volume 1, No. 1, was published in mimeographed form on Aug. 2, 1968. It was then published biweekly from 1968-69 to 2003-04, and published every three weeks thereafter until its last printed issue rolled off the presses on Jan. 27, 2016.
As of that date, the Gazette made the official leap from a print vehicle to a website only. With the ubiquity of personal devices, we at Marketing & Communications know that the vast majority of our audience consumes news content online. And for good reason: a digital news site offers incomparable storytelling ability—our stories are enhanced by video, illustrations and photo essays in addition to compelling text-based narratives—and the potential to reach a worldwide audience, thanks to Memorial’s robust presence on social media.
A news site not only allows our contributors to tell stories in an engaging and visually rich medium, but it also allows us to respond to the rapidly changing news cycle that a printed newspaper simply cannot provide. This, in addition to supporting Memorial’s sustainability pledge, a sensitivity to cost savings and explicit feedback received from our readership survey, made the decision to cease printing the Gazette a natural one.
Now that you’re here, be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss anything. We’ll send Memorial’s best stories and events straight into your inbox every two weeks to keep you up-to-date, plus share them regularly via Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Enjoy! And let us know what you think — we’re all ears.
