Olaf U. Janzen, professor, School of Arts and Social Sciences, Grenfell Campus, organized a session on the theme Before the Pacific: Critical Factors in the Making of a Maritime Explorer as part of the seventh International Congress of Maritime History, held in Perth/Fremantle, Australia, June 27-July 2. Prof. Janzen’s was one of four papers presented in the session; his was titled The Making of a Maritime Explorer: James Cook in Newfoundland, 1762-1767.
