Aging and Music

Tuesday, Sept. 13, 7:30-9 p.m.

MMaP Gallery, second floor, St. John's Arts and Culture Centre

Please join us for a free public talk by Dr. Benjamin Zendel (Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University), part of the MMaP Research Centre’s 20222023 Music & Culture Lecture Series.

Age-related decline in hearing abilities is one of the most common health issues reported by older adults. Interestingly, lifelong musicians exhibit slower rates of age-related decline on auditory processing tasks that rely on the brain. Dr. Zendel’s presentation explores emerging research highlighting that central aspects of hearing are malleable and suggesting that music or music training may be useful to improve hearing for older adults.
