Asked and Answered: Demystifying Academia
Thursday, July 15, 1-2 p.m.
Online
What have you always wanted to know about graduate studies, but were afraid to ask? Do you have questions about the un-written rules in academia? Inspired, by @ASecretMenu Twitter account, this interactive, student-driven workshop will dismantle some myths of university life, explain Canadian academic culture, and help build a better understanding of how university systems work.
Would you like to know how committees evaluate proposals and grants? Or perhaps, effective ways to foster email communication? Do you need an extension, or help writing essays? Let us know and we’ll build your questions into our workshop. This session will feature time for Q & A and a roundtable discussion to chat, and learn from each other. You can email your questions to the hosts, Julie Bowering (jbowering@mun.ca) or Dr. Meghan Burchell (mburchell@mun.ca). All submissions will be anonymous.
Offered by Memorial University’s Enhanced Development of the Graduate Experience (EDGE) https://www.mun.ca/edge: workshops and resources designed to help graduate students build diverse skills and competencies to be successful in graduate school and beyond.
