Book Launch: The Price of Gold by John Sandlos and Arn Keeling

Join John Sandlos and Arn Keeling to celebrate the publication of their new book, The Price of Gold: Mining, Pollution and Resistance in Yellowknife. Newly published with McGill-Queen’s University Press. The book tells the troubled tale of Giant Mine, which polluted the air and water around Yellowknife with arsenic trioxide for fifty years, leaving behind 237,000 tonnes of the highly toxic material buried underground. It also recounts the remarkable efforts of the Yellowknives Dene, labour unions, and environmental activists to stop the pollution. Copies of the book will be available for sale at the Quidi Vidi taproom from Downtown Comics, and 10% of sales will go the Alternatives North, a social justice coalition in the Northwest Territories.
