CITL Instructor Series: Using AI to Navigate Academic Literature
Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2-3 p.m.
Online
The presenter for this session is Alison Ambi MSc MLIS | Analytics & Data Librarian Collection Strategies, Memorial University Libraries.
General Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT do not provide sources to support their output, and are notoriously bad at generating accurate citations. However, there are AI-powered discovery tools that take advantage of LLM functionality to lead researchers to relevant academic literature (for example Scite Assistant, Consensus, and Keenious). We are also beginning to see AI tools incorporated in library databases and indexes like Scopus and Web of Science.
In this session, Alison Ambi, from Memorial Libraries will demonstrate some of these tools and discuss their pros and cons for students and researchers searching for books and articles.
