Coast Lines Book Club with Michelle Porter

Wednesday, May 11, 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Online

In Approaching Fire, Red River Métis poet, journalist, and editor Michelle Porter (MA’11, MA’20, PhD’16) embarks on a quest to find her great-grandfather, the fiddler and performer Léon Robert Goulet. Through musicology, jigs and reels, poetry, photographs, and the ecology of fire, Dr. Porter has created an ingenious portrait which expands beyond documentation into a private realm where truth meets metaphor. On May 11, join the author, Coast Lines host and current PhD candidate Angela Antle (BA’91), and special guest, interdisciplinary artist and author of Towards an Encyclopedia of Local Knowledge, Dr. Pam Hall (PhD’13) as they discuss the changing nature of our relationship to land and the meaning of home.
