Ediacaran Fossils of the Inner Meadow Site

Thursday, Nov. 28, 2-9 p.m.

Johnson Geo Centre

The new Ediacaran-aged fossil site known as Inner Meadow exposes the EM Coombs Surface, which was discovered in 2023. The site is proving to be exceptionally diverse and rich in fossils.

The @MUNpaleobiology team have been working on carefully clearing the site and recording the fossils. Come along to Memorial’s Johnson Geo Centre 2:00-5:00pm on the 28th November to see some specimens and casts firsthand and talk to the team about their discoveries.

At 7:00pm the same evening there will be a public lecture by Prof. Duncan McIlroy about the site, its fossils, and their implications for the early history of complex life.

As part of Memorial University’s Research Week, Geo is pleased to present this introduction to our province’s newest Ediacaran fossil site. The afternoon events are included in regular admission. The evening talk by Prof. McIlroy is admission by donation.

Presented by Johnson Geo Centre; Memorial Paleobiology
