Fueling the Future Fest 2026

Sunday, March 22, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Student Energy is proud to host the annual Fueling the Future Fest, a flagship event organized each year by the Student Energy MUN Chapter at Memorial University of Newfoundland. This year’s theme, “Climate Tech Innovation: From Lab to Market”, highlights the critical journey of transforming groundbreaking research into scalable, real-world solutions.

As the renewable energy and ocean technology sectors continue to grow in Newfoundland and Labrador, Fueling the Future Fest 2026 will bring together students, researchers, startups, industry leaders, and sponsors for a full day of learning, networking, and innovation.

A highlight of Fueling the Future Fest, the Student Poster Competition celebrates innovation in sustainable energy and ocean technology. The Goal is to showcase novel and impactful student-led projects that advance innovation in renewable energy and ocean technology.

Participants must:

  • Be a current student at any of:

    • Memorial University of Newfoundland

    • College of the North Atlantic

    • Marine Institute

  • Compete individually or in teams of up to four members

  • Be enrolled in any faculty (undergraduate or graduate)

  • Present a project related to sustainable energy or ocean technology

Eligible project formats include:

  • Academic research

  • Case studies

  • Capstone or engineering design projects

  • Business proposals or startup concepts

  • Personal technical projects

Poster Design Guidelines:

  • Size: 24” × 36” (minimum) to 36” × 48” (maximum)
  • Minimum font size: 16 pt
  • Use graphs instead of tables when possible
  • Keep visuals bold and clear
  • Label axes, symbols, and equations clearly
  • Integrate text with visuals
  • Keep text concise and focused
  • Include references and acknowledgments
  • Simplicity is key

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three projects:

  • 1st Place: $500/team
  • 2nd Place: $250/team
  • 3rd Place: $100/team

Winners will be announced during the closing ceremony.
