Learn to assess, create, update and communicate new HR policies and be able to critically assess and identify gaps in an existing HR policy.

Human resources policies that are clear, reflect company culture and are consistent in their methodology can strengthen employee relations and improve an organization’s overall HR practices. In this topic, participants will examine the key policy considerations, and the tasks and consultations needed to ensure understanding and buy-in to policy intent and content. With this knowledge, participants will explore the policy-writing process and critically assess and identify gaps in an existing HR policy. Participants will also review how to build an employee communications plan for implementing new and amended HR policies.

From HR policy assessment to dissemination, this session will give participants a better appreciation for how the development of appropriate policies helps to shape organizational culture and builds a foundation for success.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the difference between HR policy, procedure and guidelines.
  • Assess how HR policies are aligned with legislation and collective agreements.
