Indigenous Birthworkers and Indigenous Futures: Truth Before Reconciliation

Dr. Karen Lawford, an Anishinaabeg midwife, Registered midwife and Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McMaster University, presents the context of Indigenous birthworkers and how they are related to Indigenous futures. But first, she describes the historical socio-political context of healthcare in the country of Canada referencing various Calls to Action, Calls to Justice, and Recommendations from three national commissions. One of the goals of this presentation is to make evident the truth so that together, we can begin a path towards reconciliation.
