Lab2Market Oceans Information Session

Monday, Feb. 28, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Online

The Ocean Startup Project‘s Lab2Market Oceans program gives university research teams from across the country the skills they need to explore their ocean research idea in a new way and identify commercial opportunities (e.g., startup creation, licensing, partnering with industry) over seven weeks. It encourages researchers to take their findings beyond the typical academic path and into the world of innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialization.

Lab2Market Oceans applications will be open from February 23 to April 4, 2022 and will be available at www.oceanstartupproject.ca/lab2market-oceans

During this one-hour information session, the Lab2Market Oceans Program Manager, Marie Curtis, will walk prospective applicants through the program, including how to apply, what to expect, program eligibility, outcomes and success stories, timelines, skills you will learn, and more. A representative from Mitacs will also be available to answer any questions about the program’s funding component.

The program is completed in teams of three: an entrepreneurial lead (postdoctoral fellow or graduate student), a faculty member as a technical lead, and an industry mentor. The participating student or fellow will be awarded $15,000 CAD through Mitacs.

At the end of the program, Lab2Market Oceans participants will have the entrepreneurial skills and competencies needed to understand the next steps of their research commercialization path. That path can be to create a research-based company, collaborate with an industry partner, or go back to the lab for more development.

Lab2Market Oceans is part of the Ocean Startup Project, hosted by Memorial University, and supported by Springboard AtlanticCanada’s Ocean Supercluster, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and Mitacs
