Mentioned in Song: Songs and Stories of Early 20th-Century Woods Workers of N.L.

Thursday, Nov. 30, 7:30-9 p.m.

IIC-2001, Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation

Please join us as Dr. Ursula Kelly and Dr. Meghan Forsyth present “Mentioned in Song: Songs and Stories of Early Twentieth Century Woods Workers of Newfoundland & Labrador,” with live performances by Darrel Brenton and Jim Payne.

This presentation recalls and celebrates NL’s rich history of lumbering and logging as told through the songs, tunes, stories, and photos of our early woods workers.

Drawing on archival and new recordings, and including live performances by a local actor and musician, this presentation will highlight various aspects of woods culture on the island and in Labrador, including cutting, felling and driving, camp conditions and life, the IWA strike, the role of women, and wartime forestry service.

This presentation will be held in-person at the Bruneau Centre Lecture Hall (IIC 2001) and also live-streamed online at https://bit.ly/40zCSwh . Free parking is available in Lot 17.

Presented by Newfoundland and Labrador Historical Society
