Metal Meets Classical

‘Electric’ cellist Amahl Arulanandam tells the story behind Foreverdark, his recent collaboration with MUN alumna and 2023 Juno Winner for Composition, Bekah Simms, which he will perform the next evening with the MUN Chamber Orchestra. This concerto, which has already received multiple performances and was just released on the Centrediscs label, melds the distorted and virtuosic world of Swedish black metal with that of western classical music. Arulanandam will discuss the work with highly audible demonstrations, plus other tidbits regarding his artistic practice with amplified cello. An informal Q and A will conclude the discussion.
