MUNalum 101: Ageism

Tuesday, March 15, 1-2 p.m.

Online

If we are lucky, we will all age where we want to and how we want to. However many of us are completely unaware of the subconscious stereotypes we hold about older people. Ageism, like sexism or racism, is a result of prejudice and bias and has a significant detrimental impact on the older population and society in general. But what if we changed how we think, feel and act towards age and aging? What would that mean for the future of Newfoundland and Labrador and the world at large? Join Henry Kielley (BSW’00, MSW’08), RSW and Director of the Seniors and Aging Division of the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, for a conversation about how we can change our attitudes toward aging and how this can positively affect healthy aging across the life span.
