Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1-2 p.m.

Online

December in Newfoundland and Labrador sees the arrival of various strange characters, from colourful disguised mummers, to snock-jawed hobby horses, to St. Stephen’s Day visitors clutching a bird on a stick. Join folklorist and author Dale Jarvis (MA’01) for an exploration of some of Newfoundland and Labrador’s strangest holiday traditions and the history of acting foolish. As an added bonus to this seasonal discussion, Department of Folklore faculty member Dr. Daniel Peretti will share his latest research into the legend of Santa Claus.
