MUNalum 101: Nurse Practitioners

Celebration of Nurse Practitioner Week, join coordinator of Memorial’s nursing practitioner program Dr. Jill Bruneau, BN, MHSc (Toronto), PhD (Memorial) as she explains the powerful and growing role these professionals play in the health care system.

Nurse practitioners (NPs) play a critical role in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses utilizing a holistic approach for individuals and their families.

NPs are able to assess, diagnose, treat, counsel and support individuals in a variety of settings within hospitals and communities across Newfoundland and Labrador and elsewhere. They work in acute care, primary health care, rehabilitative and palliative care settings according to federal and provincial standards and scope of practice to provide excellent holistic care.
