Opera Roadshow: World Premiere of Le Phare

Monday, April 28, 7-8 p.m.

D.F. Cook Recital Hall, School of Music

Being the only light in the night is hard and lonely work. What happens when a lonely Lighthouse decides to stop shining to make a new friend? When the Lighthouse, the Sun, and Moon join forces to rescue a lost boat, they learn that together we can accomplish great things and that we all have a role to play in keeping our world turning.

Please join us for the premiere performance of Le Phare, a new children’s opera commissioned by Dr. Caroline Schiller for Opera RoadShow / Opéra en Tournée, and written by Québécois composer Laurence Jobidon and Ukrainian-Canadian librettist Maria Reva.

Shortly after the premiere, Opera RoadShow will tour Le phare to a number of schools throughout the Avalon and Central Newfoundland. The premiere performance will feature a principal cast comprised of current students and alumni of the MUN School of Music, and a chorus comprised of members of Shallaway Youth Choir.

Please also join us for a Q&A session with the creatives behind Le Phare immediately following the performance.

Opera RoadShow / Opéra en Tournée is an ensemble committed to arts education through outreach and engagement by bringing fully staged and costumed operas out of the concert hall and into local schools. Opera RoadShow has created an environment where young audience members experience opera through interactive performance, and where young professional singers mature as performing artists. By making opera accessible to children in even the most remote areas of our province, we help them to see it as a thriving art form that incorporates a myriad of artistic and technical disciplines.

Tickets are Pay What You Can at the door.
Opera running time: 35 minutes.

Presented by School of Music
