Partnering with Fishers to Improve Scientific Monitoring: Fishers’ Ecological Knowledge on Cap(e)lin and the Unpredictability of Fieldwork

Monday, June 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Online

Laura Bliss is currently finishing her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences at the University of Manitoba with Drs. Gail Davoren (Canada) and Jen Zamon (USA). She spent three summers in Newfoundland interviewing fishers and conducting at-sea surveys for cap(e)lin. She also remotely managed two additional field seasons in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland, to conduct further at-sea surveys. Her Ph.D. focuses on predicting where marine prey aggregations occur in Newfoundland and where marine predator aggregations occur in the California Current Ecosystem.
