Science on the Rock: Snowflakes with Kris Poduska
Monday, Jan. 27, 7-8 p.m.
Quidi Vidi brewery
Welcome back to another year of science talks at Quidi Vidi! Here to start off the new season is Dr. Kristin Poduska who will be bringing a bit of winter to the stage. As always, the event is FREE and all brains are welcome! See the details of her talk below:
“Many solid objects, including snowflakes, have symmetries that are directly related to the patterned arrangements of their atoms. Amazingly, many of these patterns arise from a very simple idea related to how spheres pack together. Join us to see why this works, and to learn how these patterns help to explain why snowflakes can actually have many different kinds of shapes, why table salt often forms in cubes, and how the skeletons of sea urchins grow.”
