Solar Eclipse Bus Tour

On April 8, 2024, Gander, NL, will be in the path of a total solar eclipse. Here in St. John’s, we will experience 99.21% totality, so 0.8% of the Sun will still be visible past our Moon. The last time any location in Newfoundland experienced a total solar eclipse was 1972, and after the eclipse on April 8, 2024, the next time will be May 1, 2079.

Johnson Geo Centre is delighted to be hosting a coach bus tour to experience the total solar eclipse in Gander. Your ticket includes same-day coach transportation to and from Gander, interpretation and information en route, and a boxed lunch from Postmaster’s Bakery. Participants will be responsible for their own evening meal in Gander. Our coach will provide transportation to a suitable restaurant. (Restaurant to be determined.) Solar Eclipse viewing in Gander will be centred on the CNA campus. We will update on local activities as they are announced.
Meet at Johnson Geo Centre parking lot: 9:00am for departure.
Coach will depart Gander at 7:30pm for return.
The eclipse itself begins at 4:09pm, hitting its maximum at 5:15pm, and ending at 6:17pm.
