The Mi’kmaw language has been dormant in Newfoundland for nearly half a century now and French is in serious decline. Speck and Cormack both commented on the trilingual nature of Bay St. George Mi’kmaw. Simon teaches with Qalipu First Nation and privately and advocates for minority language rights.
