Sustainable Dual Track Development: The Future of Agile Methods for Co-located, Remote and Hybrid Teams

Monday, May 4, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Faculty of Business Administration boardroom fourth floor

Today’s software developers face two fundamental challenges, both of which have been exacerbated by the rise of agentic coding. The first problem is that most software projects are not environmentally, economically, socially, or technically sustainable. The second problem is that the dominant way of organizing development, agile methods, does not explain how to design good software and the dominant way of designing good software (human-centred design) is prima facie incompatible with agile methods. Sustainable Dual Track Development addresses these challenges by integrating the best ideas from sustainable development, human-centered design, and agile methods. It was synthesized from a three-year grounded theory study at the groundbreaking agile software consultancy Pivotal Labs, leading to the most important book on agile methods in the past 20 years.
