Teaching Early in Your Career or What I Wish Someone Had Told Me

Tuesday, July 16, 1-2 p.m.

Online

In a typical academic position, teaching is supposed to account for 30-40% of your job. (Some academic positions, even at universities, are 100% teaching.) But even if you’re exiting academia, if you’re teaching now, it’s good to do so in a considered and thoughtful way. In this talk, we will offer advice based on our own teaching experiences, contrasting the experience of someone who has been teaching for 20 years with someone who has been teaching for 1. We concentrate on what would be useful for someone early in their career.

Date and Time: Tuesday, July 16, 2024, 1-2 pm NDT

Mode: Online

Presenters:

  • Dr. Danny Dyer, Professor, Department of Mathematics and Statistics
  • Alfie Davies, PhD student, Department of Mathematics and Statistics
