The Music of Dialect: A Compositional Tribute to the Speech and Stories of Newfoundland and Labrador
Steve Cowan and Jason Noble
Music at Memorial Mainstage Series
Thursday, September 14, 7:30pm
D.F. Cook Recital Hall
Guitarist Steve Cowan and composer Jason Noble return home to present a concert of all-original music composed in honour of Newfoundland and Labrador. Recordings of interviews with residents of the province are interwoven with guitar music, producing an enchanting soundworld somewhere between speech and music. The pieces touch on themes close to the hearts of many Newfoundlanders including community identity, Beaumont Hamel, ghost and fairy stories, kitchen parties, and change over time. Featuring the Newfoundland premiere of Noble’s internationally acclaimed Folk Suite, with guest performer Michelle Cheramy on flute. $26/$20 (fees included)
