Theresa Koon: Promise
Friday, Oct. 4, 5:30-7 p.m.
Suncor Energy Hall, School of Music
On Friday, October 4th, at 5:30 pm in the Suncor Energy Hall, the composer Theresa Koon will give a presentation on creative promise, focusing on the life of the eminent French sculptor Camille Claudel (1864–1943). Supplementing Koon’s presentation, students from the School of Music will perform excerpts from her opera Promise, based on Claudel’s life, from her infancy in Villeneuve to her adulthood in Paris to her last years in the Asile de Montdevergues. Koon’s astonishing opera explores the wages of great artistic talent: what such talent permits and what it imposes on the person possessed of it.
Admission is free and all are welcome to attend. Parking is available in Lot 15B.
This event has been organized by Dr. Andrew Loman in the Department of English and Dr. Jane Leibel in the School of Music, with generous support from the Scholarship in the Arts fund.
