This Spectred Isle: The Ghost Ship Map with Karin Murray-Bergquis

Thursday, Feb. 26, 7:30-9 p.m.

A-1043; online

The ghost stories of the waters around the island of Newfoundland are many and varied, from brief snippets recounting chance encounters in the fog, to longer narratives describing strange sights and sounds seen throughout the years by multiple people. This talk will bring together a range of ghost ship legends woven into Newfoundland’s history and seascapes, and collected into the Ghost Ship Map, a project aiming to study this fascinating body of lore. Tales of buried treasure, weather warnings, and memories of disasters at sea illustrate a long relationship between coastal communities and the waters that surround them, and demonstrate the role of narrative in facing uncertainty.

Free Parking is available in Lot 15B
