Upper Island Cove Fossil Tour

Memorial University’s Johnson Geo Centre is excited to invite you on a road trip to explore the Upper Island Cove fossil surface! Research has been ongoing at this site for the last 20 years. The fossil tour will be led by our interpreter, Dr. Rod Taylor, known fondly as @FossilRod. With his vast knowledge of Ediacaran fossils in our province, and his engaging approach to sharing that knowledge, we know you’ll have an experience you won’t soon forget! Please note: registration is required to attend this event.

Depart from: Johnson Geo Centre, 175 Signal Hill Rd., St. John’s
Departure time: 9:30am
Arrive back at Johnson Geo Centre: 2:30pm
Tour Cost: $155 (+ $17.25 HST)
Tour Cost includes bus transportation to and from Upper Island Cove, tour, interpretation, and a picnic lunch from Postmaster’s Garden Cafe.
Live in the UIC area? You can join us for the tour and lunch, without the transportation. Cost is $55 (+$8.25 HST). Please meet us at the fossil site at 11:15am.
Please dress for the weather. The fossil surface is a rock surface at the edge of the ocean. It is uneven and can be slippery. Please wear appropriate footwear (hiking boots, sneakers, etc.) Unfortunately, this natural area is not accessible for those with mobility impairments.
