World Oceans Day at the Marine Institute

Saturday, June 8, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Marine Institute, Ridge Road campus, St. John's

Celebrate World Oceans Day with a free family event at the Marine Institute on Saturday, June 8.

Activities for all ages take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Marine Institute’s campus on 155 Ridge Rd. Free parking is available.

Everyone is welcome to join in the fun: tour a fisheries patrol vessel, pilot an underwater robot, touch cold-water corals and sponges, learn about aquatic invasive species and species at risk, explore ocean-related careers, get creative with ocean-themed crafts, and much more.

Online events take place June 6-8 via the World Oceans Day – Newfoundland and Labrador Facebook page, including a beachcombing guide, geocaching event, songs, recitations and spectacular coastal drone footage.

The event is presented by Newfoundland and Labrador World Oceans Day Committee volunteers from: Fisheries and Oceans Canada; Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture; World Wildlife Foundation – Canada; Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, N.L. chapter; Marine Institute; Parks Canada; Atlantic Healthy Oceans Initiative; and ACAP Humber Arm.
