For the first time in its history, Harlow Campus is preparing to host other Canadian universities and representatives from partner organizations in the United Kingdom for an open house and tour.
On Sept. 12, guests will converge on the campus to learn about new opportunities to explore field school agreements and other partnership opportunities at Harlow.
International opportunities
“Harlow Campus has so much to offer partner universities,” said Sonja Knutson, director, Internationalization Office. “The campus has been providing students, faculty and researchers from Memorial with exceptional international opportunities for more than 45 years, and we’re keen to share this unique international experience with other academic institutions.”
The event coincides with the European Association for International Education (EAIE) annual conference, Europe’s largest higher education conference, taking place Sept. 13-16 in Liverpool.
Information session
After the campus tour, Memorial University and International Experience Canada (IEC), in partnership with Global Affairs Canada, will co-host an information session titled Youth Mobility in the Canadian Context. IEC is a youth mobility program that allows Canadian and foreign youth, aged 18-35, to gain international work and travel experience. Under IEC, Canada has concluded partnerships with 32 countries across Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Latin America.
While IEC has been successful in attracting foreign youth to Canada, Canadian youth participation has been comparatively low—a trend IEC is working to improve. The presentation will provide an overview of IEC and engage audience members in an open dialogue about barriers to outbound mobility and how these can potentially be addressed collectively.
