A number of important academic leadership changes that will take place in the coming months were approved by the Board of Regents on June 8, 2016.

Dr. Lisa Bishop

Dr. Lisa Bishop has been appointed interim dean of the School of Pharmacy effective Aug. 1, 2016, until a permanent dean is recruited. Dr. Bishop replaces Dr. Carlo Marra who has accepted the role of dean of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Otago in New Zealand.

Dr. Bishop came to Memorial’s School of Pharmacy in July 2006. She is an associate professor in the School of Pharmacy and director of the entry-to-practice doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) program. She holds a B.Sc. in pharmacy from Memorial and a PharmD degree from the University of Colorado.

Dr. Ross Klein

Dr. Ross Klein has been appointed acting dean of the School of Social Work effective July 18, 2016, until Nov. 17, 2016. Dr. Klein will act in the position while Dr. Donna Hardy Cox, dean of the School of Social Work, is on administrative leave.

Dr. Klein has been engaged in teaching and research at Memorial for more than 28 years. He is associate dean, graduate studies and research, in the School of Social Work. Before coming to Memorial, he taught at Iowa State University and Skidmore College and held adjunct appointments at Smith College and Empire State College. He holds a B.Sc. in sociology from Arizona State University, a master of social work from the University of Maryland and an MA and PhD from Syracuse University.

The appointments for the acting deans of Pharmacy and Social Work were recommended by the provost and accepted by the president following calls for nominations and expressions of interest, and consultation with leadership and faculty in both schools.

Dr. Sean Cadigan

The appointment of Dr. Sean Cadigan as associate vice-president (academic) faculty affairs pro tempore has been extended effective July 1, 2016, until a permanent candidate is recruited for the new position of associate vice-president (academic) programs, complement planning and development.

Dr. Cadigan has been a professor in Memorial’s Department of History since 2001. He previously served as head of the history department and director of the master of employment relations program, which is jointly offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Business Administration.

Robert Wells

Robert Wells has been appointed interim director for the Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) effective Aug. 1, 2016, until a permanent candidate is recruited. The appointment was approved by Vice-Presidents Council.

Mr. Wells has served as associate director of CITL (previously DELTS) since 2007, where he has led the design and technical operations of the department, including course design, media services, classroom technologies and technical systems. Mr. Wells was acting director of CITL from 2011-12, and interim director of Harlow campus from 2012-15. He also leads the department’s international outreach initiatives.
