A Memorial University student joins 14 other young Canadians as the first members of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Youth Council.

Donovan Taplin is a fourth-year folklore and communications studies major in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

He is from the Town of Wabana on Bell Island, N.L., where he is the youngest person ever elected to a municipal council in the province.

Mr. Taplin has served on the Premier’s Youth Advisory Committee, and undertaken volunteer roles with the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation and the Atlantic Summer Institute on Healthy and Safe Communities.

He is a Students on Ice alumnus and a Memorial University ambassador. Most recently, Mr. Taplin served as a delegate for the Young Diplomats of Canada at the Y7 Summit in Tokyo, Japan.
