Letter to students

A message from Dr. Cecilia Reynolds, deputy provost (students)

Student Life

Dear students,

I am pleased to welcome all new students to Memorial this September and to welcome back those returning for this academic year.

Throughout 2016-17, I know you will take an active part in our academic community and continue to uphold our reputation as a place where all members of our community are included and respected.

Please remember that you are expected to attend classes and participate in online discussions, as well as exhibit academic integrity in all assignments, tests and exams.

It is important that you know and follow university policies, including Memorial’s Sexual Harassment Policy, Alcohol Policy and the Student Code of Conduct. These policies, among others, are in place to facilitate a positive environment for all members of our diverse community. For all of our safety, any breaches to these or other policies will lead to appropriate actions. I also encourage you to review Memorial’s Emergency Preparedness Plan and ensure you are aware of your role and the safety measures we must all take in case of an emergency.

Please remember to check the University Diary for the most accurate listing of dates for course add/drop, fees deadlines and exams. And the University Calendar is your best source for up-to-date university regulations and course information.

Whether you need help with your studies or with personal and professional demands, there are comprehensive supports available to you at Memorial. There are people here who are committed to supporting you and your success. Help is here.

Our university is dedicated to the memory of those who made sacrifices in war so that we could have the freedom to learn. It is up to all of us to use that freedom responsibly. I encourage you to exercise that freedom by exploring and learning as much as you can.

I wish you great success for the 2016-17 academic year,

Dr. Cecilia Reynolds
Deputy provost (students) and associate vice-president (academic) undergraduate studies
